Guest lecture about additive manufacturing

Posted on 2023.04.28.2023.04.28. By Biró István

The G116 lecture room of the Department of Manufacturing Science and Engineering (GTT) was the home of a guest lecture on April  28, 2023: Professors Cândida Malça and João Malça introduced the scientific and infrastructural competencies of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC – Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra) in Portugal on the field of additive manufacturing (AM), followed by an exciting review-lecture about the AM’s challenges, problems and aims of research. The attendance of colleagues and students from three departments (Dept. of Material Science and Engineering, Dept. of Polymer Engineering, and GTT) of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering proved and expressed the great interest in this hot topic of manufacturing science. After the presentation, we took a look at the Matsuura Lumex Adance-25 type hybrid machining centre installed in GTT’s workshop and found many aspects and common points of interest for future collaborations between our institutes. Hereby we thank our Guest Speakers for their introduction and the state-of-the-art lecture. We will continue our discussions in the short term according to our best hopes.

Our Guests visited us in the framework of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility programme. The Erasmus collaboration between IPC and BME’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has a successful history of many years. Thanks to this active cooperation, there is a continuous mutual interest of both partners’ students to study abroad, resulting in many fruitful mobilities.
